Golden Pines was written and inspired by the views from my train ride from Boston, MA to Portland, ME on the Amtrak Downeaster. I was overcome by the beauty of the New England countryside and the sunset through the trees, making them seemingly shimmer and glow. The beginning of the piece reflects the excitement of the train leaving the Boston North station (under TD Garden). You can hear the hustle and bustle of the city along with the excitement that accompanies the beginning of any journey. You then quickly leave the city behind and enter the land of rolling green hills, dense forests, and vibrant foliage. The melody emulates the gliding, seamless feel of the train, while the background bassline and backgrounds are meant to echo the sights that are breathtaking yet gone in an instant. The finale is meant to convey the feeling of the train appearing in the distance the final station, and the anticipation of what awaits as you are on to the next adventure. I hope you and your students enjoy!
